Data Centre Decommissioning Malaysia
Planned retirement of servers, storage, network equipment, and data-bearing media with controlled removal, asset reconciliation, secure processing, and project reporting for Malaysian organisations.

Retire infrastructure without losing control of assets or data.
A data centre exit, consolidation, technology refresh, or site closure can involve hundreds of interconnected assets, multiple stakeholders, restricted access, and equipment that still contains sensitive information. A reliable project starts with a defined inventory, clear ownership, an agreed shutdown boundary, and a disposition route for each asset category.
Arkiva can scope the controlled handover and removal of retired IT equipment, asset reconciliation, media sanitisation or destruction, value-recovery assessment, and responsible downstream routing. Site access, work windows, packing, lifting, transport, records, and exception handling are confirmed before work begins.
A controlled sequence from survey to final disposition.
The project plan connects site operations, information security, logistics, and asset disposition so that equipment does not move without an agreed record and route.
Survey & Plan
Confirm the site, access controls, work window, available asset records, rack layout, equipment condition, shutdown responsibilities, handling requirements, and expected deliverables.
Reconcile & Remove
Identify and record the agreed assets, separate data-bearing media or exceptions, pack equipment for controlled movement, and document handover from the authorised site representative.
Process & Report
Route assets through the agreed sanitisation, destruction, reuse, value-recovery, or recycling workflow, then reconcile results and issue the records included in the project scope.
Records defined around your project.
Deliverables are confirmed before work begins so stakeholders know what evidence will be available at completion.
Available within the agreed scope
- Project scope, site requirements, and agreed work sequence
- Asset or quantity reconciliation using available identifiers
- Collection, handover, and exception records
- Erasure results or destruction records where included
- Disposition summary for reuse, value recovery, or recycling
Electrical isolation, live-system shutdown, cabling works, specialist lifting, rack removal, and building reinstatement are included only when explicitly stated in the quotation and may require customer-authorised or appropriately qualified contractors.

Final methods, records, responsibilities, and commercial terms are confirmed in the project proposal.
What information is needed to prepare a quotation?
Useful information includes the location, estimated rack and asset quantities, equipment categories, available asset lists, data sensitivity, access restrictions, preferred work window, packing and loading conditions, required disposition routes, and reporting needs. A site survey may be recommended for complex projects.
Can data-bearing media be handled separately?
Yes, when the project scope requires it. Drives and other media can be identified and routed separately for an agreed sanitisation or physical destruction process. The method depends on the media technology, condition, sensitivity, and intended outcome.
Can retired equipment be reused or remarketed?
Potentially. Eligibility depends on ownership, age, specification, condition, configuration, successful data processing, quantity, project costs, and market demand. Assets that are not eligible follow the alternative disposition route agreed for the project.
Are shutdown, cable removal, and rack dismantling always included?
No. These activities are site- and scope-specific. Live-system shutdown, electrical isolation, specialist cabling, lifting, rack removal, and building works must be assigned to authorised parties and stated clearly in the quotation.
How long does a decommissioning project take?
Timing depends on asset volume, inventory quality, shutdown readiness, access windows, security controls, packing and lifting needs, site rules, transport arrangements, and the required processing and reporting.
